PAI Profies of Inpatients with Schizophrenia

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) profiles of inpatients with schizophrenia and to investigate their subtype profiles by using cluster analysis. Subjects consisted of 67 inpatients with schizophrenia, 67 other psychiatric inpatients and 67 normal control. The results were the following. Only DRG score was elevated above cutoff score (T score 65) and SOM, DEP, PAR, SCZ, SUI and NON scales were moderately elevated in inpatients with schizophrenia. A cluster analysis identified the three following subclusters in PAI profiles of inpatients with schizophrenia: cluster 1 included 32 of 67 patients (47.76%), cluster 2 involved 23 of them (34.33%), and 12 of them (17.91%) were in cluster 3. In PAI profile of cluster 1, DEP, DRG and SUI scales were elevated above cutoff scores and SOM, ANX, ARD, PAR, SCZ, BOR, ANT, STR and NON scales were moderately elevated. PAI profile of cluster 2 was within the normal range with T score 50 in validity, clinical treatment and interpersonal scales. In validity scale of cluster 3, ICN, NIM, SOM, ANX, ARD, DEP, PAR, SCZ, BOR, ANT, DRG, AGG, SUI, STR and NON scales were elevated above cutoff scores. Finally, the suggestions and implications of this study were discussed.
